Salaries for young doctors will be paid through clinical pathways. The primary task of the NHIF will be to identify hospitals that are unable to provide salary increases. To this end, a working group has already been established to prepare an analysis by the end of the week.

The reason is that hospitals currently do not have fixed salaries, but rather labor remunerations formed based on the medical facility’s earnings. This was stated to journalists by the Governor of the Health Insurance Fund, Assoc. Prof. Petko Stefanovski.

According to him, after the reverse transfer to the Ministry of Health, 230 million BGN remain in the NHIF, which will be directed toward a new increase in the prices of clinical pathways. Before that, however, an analysis will be conducted to determine why pathway revenues are sufficient for increases in some hospitals but not in others.

“The Medical Facilities Act will include specific provisions for the salaries of medical specialists. The increase in remuneration for specialist doctors will fall under the competence of the medical facilities’ management,” emphasized Assoc. Prof. Stefanovski.

He added that a three-month grace period is planned, during which hospitals must bring remunerations in line with the values required by law, and this will also apply retroactively.
