OpenAI has announced a new artificial intelligence model, GPT-Rosalind, designed to accelerate drug development and support scientific research in biology, according to a report by pharmaphorum. <\/p>\n\n

The news comes just days after a strategic partnership between OpenAI and Novo Nordisk, which aims to implement AI technologies across all stages\u2014”from drug discovery to commercialization.”<\/p>\n\n

GPT-Rosalind is named after the British scientist Rosalind Franklin, whose work was pivotal in uncovering the structure of DNA. The model was developed to assist in the early stages of drug development by faster summarizing of scientific data, generating hypotheses, and planning experiments. <\/p>\n\n

The platform was introduced only days after Amazon announced its own drug discovery tool, Amazon Bio Discovery, highlighting the intensifying competition in this field. Other companies developing similar technologies include NVIDIA, Alphabet through Isomorphic Labs, and Anthropic. <\/p>\n\n

OpenAI describes GPT-Rosalind as a “next-generation model designed to support biological research, drug development, and translational medicine.”<\/p>\n\n

The company is already working with leading organizations such as Amgen, Moderna, the Allen Institute, and Thermo Fisher Scientific to apply the technology in scientific processes.<\/p>\n\n

\u201cLife sciences require extreme precision at every step. The questions are exceptionally complex, the data is unique, and the stakes are very high,\u201d said Sean Bruich of Amgen.\u201cOur collaboration with OpenAI allows us to utilize their most advanced technologies in new ways and accelerate the delivery of medicines to patients.\u201d <\/p>\n\n

GPT-Rosalind is already available as a test version in ChatGPT, as well as through a programmable interface (API) for partners in the life sciences sector. The model is also compatible with the Codex platform, OpenAI’s AI tool for software development. <\/p>\n\n

The company also offers a free scientific plugin that allows connection to over 50 data sources and scientific tools\u2014including genetics, protein structures, biochemistry, and clinical research.<\/p>\n\n
