Increasing professional burnout is becoming a serious problem for the Bulgarian labor market. This is shown by a study by the Bulgarian Industrial Association, conducted at the beginning of 2026 among over 300 employees in six professional fields with an increased risk to mental health.<\/p>\n\n
The study covers specialists from fields such as information technology, marketing and sales, human resources, finance, industrial management, as well as the hotel and restaurant industry. The data outlines a worrying picture \u2013 62% of respondents have a moderate level of burnout, and in another 11%, the condition is in an advanced stage.<\/p>\n\n
According to the analysis, both personal characteristics and the pressure of the work environment play a key role. Among the most common risk factors are high personal expectations, perfectionism, and a strong dependence on external evaluation. In about 60% of the participants, exactly such a combination is observed, which makes them more vulnerable to chronic stress.<\/p>\n\n
The professional environment further increases the risk. The most frequently cited sources of tension are excessive workload, short deadlines, and high responsibility associated with the work. Every second participant shares that they are unable to cope with the volume of tasks within working hours, which leads to exhaustion and the accumulation of stress.<\/p>\n\n
Labor organization also remains a serious problem. Some of the respondents point to a lack of clearly distributed responsibilities, insufficient support from management, and a tense working atmosphere. Team conflicts and a lack of recognition also rank among the main factors for burnout.<\/p>\n\n
Specialists in the field of marketing and sales, as well as those in the IT sector, where the workload and work dynamics are highest, prove to be the most affected. Young people, as well as women, are also more vulnerable to burnout, the results further show.<\/p>\n\n
Experts warn that the trend has long-term consequences not only for individual employees but also for the economy as a whole. Prolonged stress leads to a decline in productivity, increased turnover, and deteriorating health, which puts business sustainability at risk.<\/p>\n\n
According to the authors of the study, professional burnout is no longer an individual problem, but a systemic challenge that requires targeted measures \u2013 both from employers and at the level of labor and health policies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
