Every fourth Bulgarian would take incorrect actions when providing first aid to an unconscious person, according to a study by the Union of Paramedics in Bulgaria, presented on the eve of World Emergency Day \u2013 May 27.<\/p>\n\n
According to the data, 26.8% of respondents indicated they would shake the victim or give them water\u2014an action that specialists define as dangerous and potentially life-threatening due to the risk of choking and suffocation.<\/p>\n\n
Over 630 people participated in the study, primarily aged between 20 and 60. The results show a high readiness to provide assistance, but also serious deficits in practical preparation. <\/p>\n\n
Nearly 60% of respondents indicated they had undergone cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training, but 35% admitted that the training was years ago and they do not feel confident enough in their skills.<\/p>\n\n
There are also gaps in the response when reporting to the 112 emergency number. Data shows that 32% of participants do not know that the most important information during an emergency call is the exact location of the incident. Instead, people often begin with a description of the situation or an introduction. <\/p>\n\n
There is almost complete awareness regarding the single European emergency number\u201499.1% of respondents correctly identified 112.<\/p>\n\n
The study also reports high public engagement\u2014nearly 70% state a readiness to provide first aid to a stranger, but only about 30% would act confidently and only if they know what they are doing.<\/p>\n\n
\u201cProviding first aid is not a matter of emotion, but of precise algorithms,\u201d states the Union of Paramedics in Bulgaria. The organization is calling for a consistent state policy and regular training for citizens. <\/p>\n\n
As a fundamental rule, specialists remind that when calling 112, the first piece of information should always be the address or location of the incident, so that the team can be dispatched as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
