The Fourth MHAT has not been operational since the beginning of May, employees have not been paid for five months, its bank accounts are frozen by the National Revenue Agency, and the facility’s debts are nearing \u20ac1 million. This was reported by municipal councilor Boris Bonev during a meeting of the Commission on Healthcare and Social Policy at the Sofia Municipal Council. <\/p>\n\n
According to him, a year ago, the hospital’s debts amounted to approximately \u20ac100,000.<\/p>\n\n
Bonev stated that he visited the medical facility following reports from employees and found “empty corridors and offices,” servers shut down, and a complete absence of doctors and staff. According to him, the hospital is no longer admitting patients. <\/p>\n\n
He further noted that the director, Dr. Stoyan Madzharov, is on leave until May 17, and some employees were forced to take leave. Meanwhile, doctors and medical specialists continue to resign. <\/p>\n\n
The municipal councilor called for the involvement of the Economic Police and the Prosecutor’s Office due to suspicions of mismanagement and insisted that the hospital’s leadership be held personally accountable.<\/p>\n\n
The proposal was supported by municipal councilors Diana Tonova and Saad Aluani. The chair of the commission, Vanya Grigorova, stated that the Mayor of Sofia and the relevant Deputy Mayor will be officially notified of the situation. <\/p>\n\n
The crisis at the Fourth MHAT has been ongoing for two years following a decision to merge it with the Second MHAT, which was never implemented. In 2025, Dr. Stoyan Madzharov took charge of the hospital, but according to municipal councilors, the facility’s financial condition has deteriorated sharply. <\/p>\n\n
At the end of April, a new Board of Directors was elected, but it has not yet been entered into the Commercial Register.<\/p>\n\n
During the same meeting, the commission also approved the municipal program “A Good Start for Every Child in Sofia” with a budget of \u20ac1.5 million, which will support the families of 13,000 newborns in the capital.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
