17 children have contracted measles in the municipality of Byala Slatina, Vratsa region, the Ministry of Health reports. To date, 9 of the cases have been laboratory-confirmed, while confirmation is pending for the others.

The Ministry recalls that the first eight cases were registered last week in children aged 5 months to 7 years. The newly infected are aged between 11 months and 15 years, including one member of the medical staff.

Currently, 14 of the patients are hospitalized, and two children have already been discharged.

The Ministry of Health recommends that children with symptoms such as a rash, red eyes, and high fever be isolated and that medical assistance be sought.

Health authorities urge parents to check their children’s immunization status and, in case of gaps, to contact their general practitioner.

“Timely immunization is the most reliable way to protect children from severe illness and to limit its spread,” the Ministry of Health emphasized.
