The Council of Ministers of Bulgaria has approved the launch of a National Patronage Care Program, which for the first time will provide systematic support for pregnant women and children up to 2 years of age. This was announced by the caretaker Minister of Health, Mihail Okoliyski, following the government session.

According to him, the program provides for qualified nurses and midwives, as well as multidisciplinary teams if necessary, to provide individual care in the homes of young families.

“This will happen for the first time in Bulgaria – the provision of care for pregnant women and for children up to 2 years of age,” stated Assoc. Prof. Okoliyski.

The annual resource for the program will be approximately €1 million. The Minister emphasized that within the short mandate, a consensus was reached with key partners so that funds could be directed toward the most urgent needs.

It is expected that patronage care will improve the early detection of developmental issues in children and create conditions for timely intervention and support.
