Katya Ivkova is the nominee for Minister of Health in Radev's government

Katya Ivkova is the Minister of Health in Rumen Radev’s government, as he himself announced at the President’s office today.

Ivkova is a long-standing expert with over 20 years of experience in international relations, global health policy, and strategic management within the sector. She is currently the Director of the European Coordination and International Cooperation Directorate at the Ministry of Health, where she is responsible for coordinating Bulgaria’s commitments to the European Union and international organizations such as the United Nations, the World Health Organization, UNICEF, NATO, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.

Since 2024, she has also served as the Deputy Representative of Bulgaria on the Executive Board of the World Health Organization for the 2024–2027 term.

In 2023, Ivkova held the position of Deputy Minister of Health, with her portfolio including international cooperation, European projects, e-health, and patient rights. During this period, she led the Bulgarian delegation to the 76th World Health Assembly in Geneva and represented the country at the UN General Assembly in New York.

Her professional career has been tied to the Ministry of Health, where she has held various expert and leadership positions – from managing donor programs and projects to serving as a director of a directorate. She has experience in managing European programs, including the Human Resources Development Operational Programme, as well as in international negotiations in the field of health policy.

Katya Ivkova holds a Master’s degree in Public Health and Health Management from the Medical University – Sofia and in International Relations from the University of National and World Economy. She has specialized in health diplomacy, strategic planning, and e-governance through international programs in Austria, Greece, and Bulgaria.
