Health authorities call for increased vigilance due to measles

In connection with the registered cases of measles in the country and the upcoming holidays, the Ministry of Health and the specialized immunization website “Plus Me” are issuing recommendations to citizens to limit the spread of the disease.

Health authorities remind that measles is a highly contagious viral disease and urge the avoidance of contact with infected individuals, especially by people who are not vaccinated or have not previously had the infection. It is also recommended to limit visits to settlements with registered cases, as well as stays in enclosed spaces with large crowds.

Frequent hand washing and regular ventilation of rooms by opening windows are cited as key preventive measures.

The Ministry reminds that the first symptoms of measles include high fever, runny nose, cough, watery eyes, conjunctivitis, and the appearance of a rash. If the disease is suspected, it is recommended that the patient be isolated and seek medical assistance, informing the healthcare facility in advance to avoid the risk of infecting other patients.

Particular attention is paid to individuals who have been in contact with a confirmed case. They should consult a doctor immediately, as a vaccine can be administered within 72 hours of contact if necessary.

Increased vigilance is recommended for unvaccinated individuals, pregnant women, people with weakened immune systems, and families with young children.

The Ministry urges parents to check the immunization status of their children. Children aged 13 months to 11–12 years are required to have at least one dose of the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine, while those born before 2015 require two doses.

Information regarding administered immunizations is available in the electronic health record via the “eHealth” mobile application, as well as in the child’s immunization passport. If a missed dose is identified, parents should contact their general practitioner to catch up on the vaccination.

The health department emphasizes that immunization remains the most effective way for personal protection and for limiting the spread of measles.
