Ministry of Health Prepares National Program for Naloxone Provision

The Ministry of Health is beginning the preparation of a National Program to ensure access to Naloxone – a life-saving medicinal product used in cases of opioid overdose. This was reported by the health authorities.

The decision was made at the latest meeting of the National Council on Narcotic Drugs, where the creation of a working group was approved. Its task will be to draft specific proposals for establishing a sustainable mechanism for providing the medication.

The primary objective is for Naloxone to be available where an immediate response is required – in emergency medical centers, as well as for frontline teams. The scope also includes structures such as the Ministry of Interior, the Customs Agency, correctional facilities, and other services operating in high-risk environments.

The working group will propose solutions for the supply, distribution, and use of the medication to ensure rapid and effective access during emergencies. It is also planned to develop regulations for its administration outside of hospital care.

The Ministry emphasizes that the creation of a national program is a key step toward establishing a long-term policy that does not rely solely on donations, but ensures predictability and sustainability in supply.

The initiative is aimed at reducing mortality from opioid use and providing better protection for the lives and health of individuals at risk.
