The pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim reports a strong 2025, marked by sales growth, increased investment in research and development, and progress in the development of new therapies, according to the company.

The group’s net sales increased by 7.3% (currency-adjusted) to reach 27.8 billion euros. Growth was recorded in both the Human Pharma and Animal Health segments. During the year, the company reached 70 million patients worldwide, compared to 66 million in 2024.

Investments in research and development (R) amounted to 6.4 billion euros, representing 22.9% of net sales. In the Human Pharma segment alone, investments reached 5.8 billion euros, or 27.4% of revenue. This positions the company among the leading investors in innovation within the sector.

Sales in the Human Pharma division grew by 7.4% to 22.7 billion euros. Key medications for the treatment of chronic kidney disease, type 2 diabetes, and heart failure were major contributors. These reported growth of 8.7% to 8.8 billion euros, while pulmonary fibrosis therapies saw an increase of 5.4% to 3.8 billion euros.

In 2025, the company expanded its portfolio with two innovative therapies. One is an oral treatment for advanced non-small cell lung cancer with a HER2 mutation, introduced in the US in August. The other is a new medication for the treatment of idiopathic and progressive pulmonary fibrosis, which received approval in the US and China during the second half of the year. Some of the new therapies were granted breakthrough status by the FDA.

The portfolio of thrombolytic therapies also showed strong performance. A new product is already being used in stroke centers, providing faster access to treatment. At the same time, the company reported an expected decline in older products that no longer have patent protection.

“2025 confirmed the potential of new therapies and highlighted the importance of long-term investment in research and development,” said Shashank Deshpande, Head of Human Pharma. According to him, the new medications allow the company to address significant unmet medical needs.

The company states that it is currently developing over 80 projects. These include more than 50 new molecular entities in areas such as cardio-renal-metabolic diseases, oncology, respiratory and immunological diseases, mental health, and retinal diseases.

In 2026, Boehringer Ingelheim expects new key results from Phase III clinical trials and a further expansion of its portfolio with innovative therapies.
