Preventive Checkups and Screening for Children in Sports Discussed

The introduction of preventive checkups and screening for health issues in children who participate in sports was among the main topics of a meeting between the Minister of Health, Assoc. Prof. Mikhail Okoliyski, and the Prime Minister’s advisor on youth and sports, Dimitar Berbatov, according to the Ministry of Health.

During the conversation, emphasis was placed on the role of sports as a key factor for health, prophylaxis, and disease prevention. The Ministry of Health team highlighted the importance of building healthy habits from early childhood.

Dimitar Berbatov presented ideas aimed at the proper development of children in sports and encouraging more young people to engage in physical activity. He suggested that pediatricians should participate more actively through their expertise by recommending suitable sports for children with health issues and assisting in overcoming them through physical activity.

The meeting also discussed opportunities for conducting preventive checkups for children in sports, including screening for spinal deformities, obesity, and cardiovascular diseases.
