National Hub of the Mission Against Cancer Established in Bulgaria
The National Hub of the Mission Against Cancer in Bulgaria was established at a forum in Sofia—a platform for cooperation between institutions, scientific organizations, and civil structures in the field of oncology. The event was organized by the Joint Oncology National Network (JONN) in partnership with the European initiative ECHoS and took place at the GATE Institute of Sofia University.
At the conclusion of the forum, over 90 organizations signed a memorandum of cooperation, marking the symbolic launch of the initiative. The objective is to create a national platform for implementing policies in the areas of prevention, early diagnosis, scientific research, and the treatment of oncological diseases in alignment with the European Mission on Cancer.
The Minister of Health, Assoc. Prof. Mikhail Okoliyski, stated that despite the development of modern therapies, mortality from oncological diseases in Bulgaria remains high. According to him, the Ministry of Health will work toward the development of screening programs and better utilization of data from the National Cancer Registry.
According to the organizers, over 80 organizations and institutions are already participating in the Bulgarian ecosystem of the Mission Against Cancer, working toward better coordination between scientific research, policies, and patient needs.
