“I rely on constructive dialogue and joint proposals for long-term stability in the sector,” stated Minister of Health Katya Ivkova at the opening of the National Conference “Healthcare in the 21st Century – Contemporary Aspects and Challenges,” according to the Ministry of Health. The forum is organized by the Bulgarian Association of Healthcare Professionals and the organization’s regional branch in Sofia.

In her address to the participants, Minister Ivkova emphasized that she is deeply familiar with the difficulties in the system and believes in the necessity of collective efforts to achieve real change. She further stated that the Ministry of Health will prioritize staffing the system and improving the working conditions for healthcare professionals.

The Minister placed special emphasis in her speech on the international recognition of the profession. She expressed hope that during the 80th session of the World Health Organization next year, the Bulgarian delegation will include a representative of healthcare professionals.

“Attracting young talent is key to ensuring that in 20–30 years, our healthcare system will be supported by all necessary units,” emphasized Minister Ivkova. In her words, nurses and midwives are the most valuable resource in healthcare and the patient’s closest partner in the treatment process.

“I am certain that society holds the respect for you that you deserve for your round-the-clock labor,” the Minister concluded.
