“It is appropriate and objective to wait for the public consultation period for the two national screening programs to conclude,” Health Minister Katya Ivkova told journalists in response to a question regarding the launch of screening programs for cervical and colorectal cancer, BTA reports.

Earlier today, Minister Ivkova attended the National Healthcare Conference with Balkan participation on the topic “Healthcare in the 21st Century – Contemporary Aspects and Challenges.”

She recalled that on May 7, the Ministry of Health published both national screening programs for public consultation.

“Screening for oncological diseases as a method of secondary prevention is among the priorities of the Ministry of Health,” the Minister further emphasized.

Earlier this week, the Bulgarian Medical Association called on the Ministry of Health to begin implementing the screening programs and algorithms for colorectal and cervical cancer for the 2025–2030 period, which have already been adopted by the Council of Ministers, as soon as possible.
