Cardiologist from St. Marina University Hospital enters Parliament

Dr. Mesut Rashid, a cardiologist from St. Marina University Hospital, becomes a Member of Parliament representing “Progressive Bulgaria.” This was decided by the Central Election Commission.

Dr. Rashid was 11th on the formation’s candidate list in Varna.

The change occurred following the resignation of MP Mario Smarkov, who was appointed Governor of Varna. Meanwhile, the list leader Ilin Dimitrov became Minister of Tourism, and his seat in Parliament was taken by Dr. Yulian Dimitrov, a surgeon from the Varna Oncology Center.

With its decision, the CEC declares Dr. Yulian Dimitrov as a duly elected Member of Parliament, while Dr. Mesut Rashid will take the place of Ilin Dimitrov for the duration of his term as Minister.

The decision is to be published in the State Gazette, after which the new Member of Parliament will be sworn into the National Assembly.

With the entry of Dr. Rashid, the total number of medical professionals in the 52nd National Assembly reaches 17.
