Dr. Blagomir Zdravkov, Director of the 'Prof. Ivan Mitev' Specialized Hospital for Children's Diseases, Has Resigned

Dr. Blagomir Zdravkov has resigned as the director of the “Prof. Ivan Mitev” Specialized Hospital for Children’s Diseases. He announced this himself on his Facebook page.

We publish his words without editorial intervention:

“Dear colleagues, friends, and acquaintances,

Today, I submitted my resignation to the outgoing Minister of Health.

I am leaving the Specialized Children’s Hospital – Sofia with a lack of reconciliation, pain, and sadness. Not because I lack the strength, but because I refuse to be part of an environment where administrative pressure and endless inspections replace the meaning of medicine and turn work into survival.

Over the past year, instead of partnership, we saw systemic institutional pressure, financial restrictions, and a refusal of dialogue. In such an environment, it is impossible to build, modernize, and think strategically about the future.

Nevertheless, the results remain.

Tens of thousands of children treated.

Growth in the team of specialists and residents.

Better pay.

More trust.

This cannot be erased by correspondence, folders, or a bureaucrat’s signature.

Throughout my time as a leader, I never stopped being a doctor and providing aid, regardless of the day or hour. I participated in dozens of missions abroad, ensuring the lives of critically ill children transported for treatment that could not be performed in Bulgaria. I know what the battle for life looks like on the ground, not from an office or behind a desk.

No one can stop me from being a doctor. If not in Bulgaria, I will continue to work where labor, knowledge, and medical ethics are respected.
