Measles cases in the country continue to rise, reaching 66, with 14 new infections registered in the first two days of April alone. All new cases involve children under the age of 15.

The highest number of cases remains in the Vratsa region, where 12 of the new infections were reported. Eleven of these were registered in the municipality of Byala Slatina, and the infectious disease ward at the local hospital is already at full capacity.

Isolated cases have been identified in the city of Sofia and the Sofia province. In the Sofia province, the case involves a child aged one year and five months from the village of Razliv, Pravets municipality. According to the Regional Health Inspectorate, the child was infected after contact with a child from Byala Slatina suffering from measles and had not been immunized due to frequent illnesses.

Contact persons within the family, including the child’s four-year-old sister, have been vaccinated.

The spread of the disease continues to primarily affect children, while health authorities monitor the situation and take measures to contain outbreaks and reach those who are unimmunized.
