In 2025, artificial intelligence (AI) tools aimed at improving human health gained significant popularity in Europe. They promise to personalize medical care, accelerate diagnostics, support the discovery of new drugs, and alleviate the workload of healthcare professionals.

Euronews Health highlights five key ways in which AI has already transformed the medical field on the continent.

1. Predicting health risks years in advance

European scientists have developed artificial intelligence models that can predict over 1,000 diseases, including cancer, heart attacks, and diabetes, long before the first symptoms appear. This enables early prevention and timely intervention.

2. Faster and more accurate diagnostics

Certified AI assistants are already being used in Europe to support doctors in diagnostics and clinical decision-making. They analyze vast volumes of medical data and suggest possible diagnoses and therapeutic approaches.

3. Improved post-operative patient monitoring

In Germany, AI systems are being implemented for the automatic tracking of patients following coronary stent placement. The technology helps monitor recovery and identify risks of complications at an early stage.

4. Combating antibiotic resistance

Researchers are using AI to accelerate the development of new antibiotics and to analyze how the immune system responds to infections. This is particularly important in the fight against “superbugs” resistant to existing drugs.

5. Reducing the administrative burden on doctors

An increasing number of hospitals are introducing AI tools to automate administrative tasks—such as medical documentation, referrals, and notes. This frees up time for doctors to work directly with patients.
