The Ministry of Health is expanding the content of the “Health Library” module within the electronic health record and the eHealth mobile application, the department announced.

“As of today, a new thematic section dedicated to gambling addiction is available. It aims to provide scientifically based, accessible, and understandable information regarding the risks posed by gambling behavior, the signs of addiction, and the options for support and treatment. The information was developed by experts from the National Center of Public Health and Analyses (NCPHA),” the Ministry of Health added.

The Minister of Health, Assoc. Prof. Mikhail Okoliyski, identified the fight against gambling addiction as one of the leading priorities in his work. Overcoming this problem is an important step toward restoring control over the lives and mental health of those affected.

According to expert data, the harm caused by gambling addiction can be comparable to that of severe mental health conditions and alcohol abuse, placing the topic firmly within the context of public health.

With the addition of this new section, the Ministry of Health continues to consistently enrich the content of the “Health Library” with up-to-date and verified information on topics related to prevention and public health. Last week, a “Heart Health” section, developed in collaboration with the Bulgarian Society of Cardiologists, was also included in the module.

The “Health Library” module is accessible through the electronic health record in the NHIS, as well as via the eHealth mobile application.
