Georgi Klisurski Becomes Deputy Mayor of Sofia for Finance and Healthcare
Georgi Klisurski is becoming the Deputy Mayor of Sofia for Finance and Healthcare, the Sofia Municipality announced. He will assume the position on September 10, replacing Ivan Vasilev, who resigned. The other new Deputy Mayor is Stefan Darov, who will be responsible for the Legal and Administrative Control department. Nikola Lyutov remains in his position as Deputy Mayor for Public Construction.
According to Georgi Klisurski’s biography on the municipality’s website, he is an established expert with experience in public finance management. In the period 2023–2024, he held the position of Deputy Minister of Finance with responsibilities for the state budget, state debt, and municipal finances. He was a member of the Supervisory Board of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bulgaria Heli Med Service EAD—the company responsible for the commissioning of medical helicopters in the country.
“Prior to his work in the public sector, Mr. Klisurski gained professional experience in international companies. He graduated from the American College of Sofia and holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Wharton School and a Master in Public Administration (MPA) from the Harvard Kennedy School. Among his main priorities at the Sofia Municipality are effective and transparent budgeting, multi-year planning of capital investments, and the use of the widest possible range of financial sources for the implementation of all projects key to the citizens,” the municipality added.
