The Greek Ministry of Health is preparing a change that will increase the fee for visiting doctors working with the National Organization for the Provision of Health Services (EOPYY) by approximately one-third, according to a report by eKathimerini.com.

The cost of a consultation is expected to rise from €10 to €13. This will be the first adjustment to the fee since the establishment of EOPYY. Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis told public broadcaster ERT that the decision follows a long period without changes and will not result in an additional burden on the state budget.

According to the Ministry of Health, the necessary funds will be secured through cost optimization achieved by the introduction of the electronic booking platform findoctors.gov.gr. Since the beginning of February 2025, insured patients have been using the reservation system, and doctors are paid only for consultations that are actually conducted and reported.

Each doctor contracted with EOPYY is entitled to examine up to 200 insured patients per month. The elimination of payments for missed or non-occurring visits has freed up financial resources, which will now be used to increase the consultation fee.

Medical organizations view the increase as a step in the right direction but emphasize that it remains below their expectations. The Athens Medical Association recommends that contracted doctors temporarily refrain from issuing invoices until the changes are finalized.
