Ivian Benishev and Prof. Petko Salchev are the new Deputy Ministers of Health

By order of Prime Minister Rumen Radev, new deputy ministers have been appointed in three ministries, the government press office announced.

At the Ministry of Health, Dr. Ivian Benishev and Prof. Petko Salchev are assuming the positions of deputy ministers. Their specific portfolios, as well as the new composition of the Supervisory Board of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), are yet to be determined.

Until now, Dr. Ivian Benishev served as the Director of the Emergency Medical Care Directorate at the Ministry of Health. From 2010 to 2017, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Maichin Dom University Specialized Hospital for Active Treatment, and since 2023, he has been a member of the board of the St. Ivan Rilski General Hospital in Razgrad. He is a pediatrician by specialty.

Prof. Petko Salchev is well-known within the healthcare system. He served as the Governor of the NHIF from 2020 to 2023, was the Director of the Regional Healthcare Center in Sofia, and headed the Tsaritsa Yoanna University Hospital. Between 2003 and 2005, he also held the position of Deputy Minister of Health.

Changes have also occurred in other departments. Desislava Georgieva has been appointed Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, while Marina Vasileva becomes Deputy Minister of Culture.
