Ministry of Health Discusses Creation of National Program to Improve Conditions in Pediatric Wards

The creation of a National Program to improve conditions in hospital pediatric wards was discussed during a meeting between the Minister of Health, Assoc. Prof. Mikhail Okoliyski, and Nadezhda Rangelova-Boyadzhieva, Chairperson of the “For the Good” Foundation. During the meeting, opportunities for mutual cooperation in the field of pediatric healthcare in Bulgaria were discussed, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health.

The idea is for the program to build upon the “Firefly” project, which aims to improve conditions in the pediatric wards of medical facilities and create a more supportive and calm environment for young patients during their hospital stay.

During the conversation, the Minister reiterated that maternal and child health is among the primary priorities of the Ministry’s leadership. “Upon taking office, I stated that this would be one of the key areas where we will work actively to achieve real results,” noted Assoc. Prof. Okoliyski.

“For children, a hospital stay is a serious ordeal. Every change that makes the environment more humane and supportive is important for both them and their parents,” the Health Minister remarked, emphasizing that the cause for better conditions in pediatric wards unites both institutions and society.

The meeting also included a discussion on the idea of establishing a National Training Center for children with diabetes and their parents at the “Prof. Ivan Mitev” Specialized Hospital for Active Treatment of Pediatric Diseases.
