Ministry of Health Integrates Cybersecurity System into Regional and University Hospitals

The Ministry of Health is beginning the integration of the national cybersecurity system into regional and university hospitals across the country. This is a key step in protecting health data and digital infrastructure within the sector, according to the ministry.

The measure is part of a project to increase the capacity for responding to incidents affecting information and communication security in healthcare, funded by European funds under the “Research, Innovation and Digitalization for Intelligent Transformation” Program 2021-2027. The project launched in 2024, and a significant portion of the planned activities has already been implemented.

Currently, the Ministry of Health possesses a functioning system for early threat detection and implemented cybersecurity software solutions. In 2025, integration with the National Coordination Center at the Ministry of Electronic Governance was also achieved.

The upcoming inclusion of regional and university hospitals is of particular importance, as they handle the largest volume of medical activity in the country, serve patients with complex conditions, and are leading bases for training and research. This also makes them among the most vulnerable structures regarding cyber threats, the Ministry of Health explains.

The project’s goal is to guarantee a secure environment for the collection, processing, and exchange of health information, as well as an effective response to cyber incidents. Its implementation will increase the capacity of the national competent authority in the healthcare sector and the sectoral incident response team, ensuring a higher level of system protection and better coordination with other national cybersecurity institutions.

The project has a total budget of €1,331,839.07, and its activities will continue until January 30, 2027.
