Ministry of Health warns: Health is not a game!
The Ministry of Health warns of a dangerous social media “challenge.” In it, children compete to hold their breath or otherwise block the flow of oxygen to the body.
With the aim of prevention and informing parents and children about the potential risks of such “games,” the Ministry reached out to pediatricians from the “Prof. Dr. Ivan Mitev” Specialized Hospital for Active Treatment of Children’s Diseases.
Together, we remind you that health is not a game, and such challenges can lead to permanent consequences.
Just 2.5 minutes without oxygen can lead to irreversible brain damage. This condition is called hypoxia—an insufficient supply of oxygen to cells and tissues.
In the first few seconds, the following are observed: rapid heart rate, decreased motor activity, impaired consciousness, and heart rhythm disturbances.
If immediate action is not taken, loss of consciousness and brain damage occur. The consequences can be permanent disability or a fatal outcome.
The Ministry of Health is adamant that social media “challenges” that put the lives and health of children at risk should not be underestimated. It is vital to stay informed about the possible consequences.
Let’s talk to our children! One warning can save a life!
