The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the National Council on Prices and Reimbursement of Medicinal Products, has introduced a mobile application that provides citizens with fast and free access to up-to-date information on medicine prices in Bulgaria—in both Bulgarian levs and euros. This was announced by the ministry.

The new digital tool is part of the healthcare sector’s preparation for the country’s accession to the Eurozone on January 1, 2026, and serves as a specific measure to ensure transparency, stability, and control over pharmaceutical prices.

The application provides information on the ceiling prices—the maximum allowed prices—for all medicinal products. This includes medicines covered by the NHIF (National Health Insurance Fund) as well as those on the free market. The data is updated in real-time from the National Council’s public registries.

“Medicine prices will not change due to the introduction of the euro. With this tool, we guarantee transparency and make it easier for citizens to verify prices and exercise control themselves,” stated the Minister of Health, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Silvi Kirilov.

During the presentation, Ms. Maria Vasileva, an economist and member of the National Council on Prices and Reimbursement, demonstrated the capabilities of the new solution. Users can search by the product’s trade name, International Nonproprietary Name (INN), or by scanning a barcode.

When a specific medicine is entered, the application displays all products with the same INN and provides information on:

  • package contents;
  • national identification number;
  • marketing authorization number;
  • retail and wholesale prices—in levs and euros;
  • dispensing status (with or without a prescription);
  • whether it is reimbursed by the NHIF for home treatment.

The Ministry of Health emphasizes that this tool is vital for increasing transparency and public awareness, ensuring that existing regulation and control mechanisms will remain unchanged even after the adoption of the single European currency.
