The list of free medicines for young children is being expanded. Two more antibiotics and two antiviral medications will be included in the list of drugs fully covered by the NHIF. These will be for children up to seven years of age. This was stated to journalists by the Governor of the Health Insurance Fund, Assoc. Prof. Petko Stefanovski. According to him, immediately after their inclusion in the Positive Drug List, they will become free of charge for parents when necessary.

These are antibiotics with the active substances ciprofloxacin and cefuroxime, as well as two antiviral preparations based on viruprinol, Assoc. Prof. Stefanovski specified.

We recall that since the beginning of July, two antibiotics for the home treatment of children up to seven years old with acute infectious diseases are already fully covered by the NHIF. They are used for 26 of the most common childhood infections—including sinusitis, pharyngitis, pneumonia, as well as skin and soft tissue infections.

All medications are dispensed only by prescription and according to the general procedure for the treatment of acute conditions.
