Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk is launching the tablet version of its blockbuster weight-loss drug Wegovy in the US today, following the medication’s approval by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in December.

The pill will be available to cash-paying customers at a starting price of $149 per month. According to a company-maintained website, a 30-day supply of 1.5 mg and 4 mg doses will cost $149, while higher doses of 9 mg and 25 mg will be offered at a price of $299 per month. The promotional price for the 4 mg dose will be valid until April 15, after which it will increase to $199.

The tablet form of semaglutide is taken once daily—1.5 mg during the first month, followed by 4 mg and 9 mg in the second and third months, respectively, before patients transition to a maintenance dose of 25 mg daily.

In December, the FDA approved oral Wegovy for both weight management and the reduction of risks for serious cardiovascular events such as stroke. This gives Novo Nordisk a first-mover advantage in the oral weight-loss medication market.

Meanwhile, competitor Eli Lilly expects potential FDA approval for its own weight-loss tablet in early 2026. The company plans to launch it at a price of $149 per month for the lowest starting dose.
