OpenAI acquires health startup Torch in a deal worth approximately $60 million
OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has announced the acquisition of Torch, a health-tech startup focused on integrating and unifying medical data stored across multiple systems and formats, according to CNBC NEWS. The deal is valued at approximately $60 million, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Torch is the developer of so-called “unified medical memory” for artificial intelligence—a technology that aggregates information from various healthcare sources, such as hospital records, laboratory results, clinical notes, and wearable device data, to create a comprehensive and contextual patient profile that AI can analyze more effectively.
As a result of the acquisition, the Torch team will join OpenAI to work on integrating the technology into the company’s healthcare offerings, including the new ChatGPT Health product—a platform that allows users to connect their medical records and health apps with the AI assistant for more personalized health insights and analysis.
This move is part of OpenAI’s broader strategy to expand its presence in the healthcare sector through advanced AI solutions that improve access to health information and streamline workflows within the medical industry.
