Taking paracetamol during pregnancy is safe, and there is no evidence that it increases the risk of autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or other developmental disorders in children. This is stated by the experts behind a large-scale new scientific review, reports the BBC.

According to them, pregnant women “should feel reassured” by the results, which contradict controversial claims made by US President Donald Trump last year that paracetamol “is not good” and that expectant mothers should “fight at all costs” to avoid taking it.

Those statements were sharply criticized by medical organizations worldwide at the time. According to scientists, the new review, published in a scientific journal from The Lancet group, is extremely precise and should put an end to the disputes regarding the safety of the medication during pregnancy.

Nevertheless, health officials in the US maintain the position that “many experts” still express concerns regarding the use of paracetamol by pregnant women.
