Powers of Prof. Momchil Mavrov Restricted Amid NHIF Audit

The powers of Prof. Momchil Mavrov, Deputy Governor of the NHIF, have been temporarily restricted in connection with the commencement of a comprehensive audit of the institution’s activities. This was announced by the National Health Insurance Fund.

The audit was ordered by the Governor, Assoc. Prof. Petko Stefanovski, and covers all directorates and administrative structures of the Fund. It will be comprehensive, including both past periods and the functioning of the institution since the beginning of the current management’s mandate.

The measure aims to ensure impartiality and objectivity, as Prof. Mavrov served as “Acting Governor” during the period from April 17 to October 4, 2024.

The NHIF recalls that upon taking office, Assoc. Prof. Stefanovski committed to full transparency in the management of the institution. He has already presented the results of joint audits of 42 hospitals in the country to the parliamentary Health Committee and proposed specific measures to improve control activities, including through legislative changes.

The Fund assures that the current audit does not affect the operational work of the institution, the services provided to insured persons, or the relationships with contractual partners.
