Funds for the remuneration of young doctors have been secured and will not be distributed through clinical pathways, but as targeted funds for healthcare facilities. This was stated by the Chairman of the Parliamentary Health Committee, Prof. Kostadin Angelov, during the “24 Chasa” event – “The Doctors We Trust.”

“Tension is being created in society, but I want to emphasize clearly: this money will not pass through clinical pathways. It will be provided to hospitals as targeted funding so that the goal set at the very beginning can be achieved,” Prof. Angelov stressed.

He assured that the Health Committee and the National Assembly will support every initiative that improves working conditions for doctors and removes administrative obstacles hindering medical practice.

Prof. Angelov congratulated the Ministry of Health on including the varicella vaccine in the National Immunization Calendar, as well as for the new HPV program covering both girls and boys. He emphasized that both decisions will prevent numerous serious diseases and save human lives.

Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, who also attended the ceremony, emphasized prevention as a strategic element of health policy. The Prime Minister recalled the launch of two long-awaited national screening programs – for colorectal cancer and cervical cancer – which will provide access to free modern tests for over 4 million Bulgarian citizens.

Zhelyazkov also recalled the adopted National Strategy for the Development of Primary Outpatient Medical Care until 2027, which envisages new outpatient clinics in small settlements, incentives for young doctors, and a new payment model linked to qualifications.

The Prime Minister placed special emphasis on the importance of medical specialists:
“Nothing is possible without Bulgarian doctors and healthcare workers. Today we honor people who are constantly developing and proving that while technology can be modern, the power of medicine remains in the human soul and empathy.”

The theme of this year’s event is “Prevention 360°: Lifelong Prevention.” The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Health, Assoc. Prof. Silvi Kirilov, and approximately 800 doctors.

The Prime Minister’s special award was presented to Dr. Yanko Dimitrov Pandeliev from Varna, who by September alone had performed 5,516 preventive examinations and is expected to surpass his 2024 result (6,015 examinations).
