The elite of world neurosurgery gathers in Sofia to train over 250 young doctors from all over Europe. Between January 25 and 29, leading specialists in the field of neurosurgery arrive in Bulgaria for the second edition of the international training course EANS Training Courses – CYCLE 2 (Winter), SPINE, organized by the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies.

The training is hosted by Prof. Nikolay Gabrovski, MD, PhD, Corresponding Member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, in collaboration with the Neurosurgery Clinic of the UMBALSM “N. I. Pirogov”. Within the framework of the course, the latest and most modern treatment methods in the field of neurosurgery will be presented.

On the program “Wake Up” on Nova TV, Prof. Gabrovski stated that the primary mission of the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies is the dissemination of high-quality professional knowledge among young specialists. He emphasized that every participant in the training has the opportunity to complete a four-year educational cycle and, after successfully passing an exam, receive a European diploma in neurosurgery.

According to him, the initiative is of key importance as it aims to standardize and maintain a high level of training and practice throughout Europe. This year in Sofia, over 250 young neurosurgeons from various countries are present, along with approximately 50 of the most experienced and established specialists on the continent.

Prof. Gabrovski noted that Bulgaria is hosting such a forum for the second time, which is a recognition of the good organization and active participation of the country in the European neurosurgical community. In his words, the fact that Sofia was chosen to host a European congress of neurosurgery two years ago, and is now once again hosting international training, shows that Bulgaria is already an established part of this professional network.

He expressed optimism about the development of neurosurgery in our country and emphasized that although new technologies facilitate the work of doctors, the human factor remains irreplaceable. Such a large-scale training event is being held in Bulgaria for the second time in the last decade.
