Prosecution launches investigation after leaked footage from gynecological office; arrests made
Videos distributed on adult websites were filmed with a hidden camera in a gynecological office in Sofia. The case was reported by Nova Television. The footage shows women during gynecological examinations, captured by a camera placed in a corner of the office.
In connection with the case, the acting Minister of Health, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Silvi Kirilov, ordered an immediate inspection by the Sofia Regional Health Inspection. The inspection confirmed the presence of a camera in the doctor’s office, the Ministry of Health announced. A statement of findings has been drafted, and the collected materials have been provided to the competent authorities.
The Ministry of Health urged patients to report any suspicions of unauthorized video surveillance in medical offices.
The Sofia District Prosecutor’s Office has also launched a self-initiated investigation and opened pre-trial proceedings for the distribution of pornographic material via information technology. The investigation covers the period from January 1 to February 4, 2026, and has been assigned to the Sofia Metropolitan Directorate of Internal Affairs.
To date, inspections and searches have been conducted at eight addresses in the capital, including private gynecological offices. Evidence has been seized, and a surveillance camera was discovered at one of the addresses.
The gynecologist and his wife were detained but subsequently released. According to the prosecution, there is currently no evidence of authorship on the part of the doctor. A theory regarding the hacking of the camera is being investigated, as the IP addresses from which the clips were distributed have been localized outside the European Union. A possible connection to similar cases in Burgas and Kazanlak is also being investigated.
The investigation continues, with witness interrogations and a computer-technical expert examination pending, the state prosecution specified.
