The government has adopted a new program to limit viral hepatitis by 2030.

The Council of Ministers of Bulgaria approved the National Program for the Prevention of Viral Hepatitis for the period 2026–2030, the government press office announced. The document sets the framework for expanding preventive activities and improving access to services for various population groups.

The primary objective of the program is to limit the spread of viral hepatitis through a combination of measures: increasing awareness of transmission methods, promoting prevention, maintaining high immunization coverage against hepatitis B, as well as more active testing and early detection of infections.

The new strategic document builds upon the activities of the previous programming period and is aligned with international and European commitments, including the World Health Organization’s plans to eliminate viral hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030.

The program is also synchronized with national healthcare policies, such as the National Health Strategy 2030 and the National Cancer Control Plan, aiming for a more coordinated and sustainable approach to disease prevention, diagnosis, and control.
