The deficit of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) has decreased to BGN 215 million, announced the governor of the institution, Assoc. Prof. Petko Stefanovski, following a meeting of the Supervisory Board.

As a reminder, as of June 30, the Fund’s reported revenues and transfers amounted to BGN 4.44 billion, while expenditures reached BGN 4.84 billion, resulting in a budget balance of approximately BGN 404 million.

“The first item on today’s agenda was the review of the nine-month report on the revenue and expenditure parts of the budget. The deficit of BGN 215 million represents health insurance contributions not yet received from the National Revenue Agency. Currently, there are about BGN 22 million that have not yet been collected, but we expect this to happen by the end of the year,” explained Assoc. Prof. Stefanovski.

According to him, budget execution remains balanced, with the excess over indicative values in hospitals within the range of BGN 5 million.
Next week, the Supervisory Board will discuss current budget execution, the projected budgets of medical facilities, and the possibility of releasing the NHIF reserve.
