The ruling coalition withdraws the state budget draft
The ruling coalition is withdrawing the state budget draft. “I do not like this budget, and shortly the Prime Minister and the coalition council will announce the decision. Until dialogue is restored within the tripartite council, we will operate under the old budget,” stated GERB leader Boyko Borisov after an extraordinary meeting of the Joint Management Council.
According to him, some of the demands made by the protesters are justified and the budget must be revised. Until a new version is prepared, he stated that there is no problem for the state to function under the 1/12 rule of the current budget.
Earlier, DSB Chairman Atanas Atanasov called on the authorities to withdraw the budget draft in order to end public tension. He stated that the “brutal budget” submitted by the cabinet had brought people out onto the streets, but warned that the protests could create risks in light of the upcoming accession to the eurozone.
“Therefore, we insist that the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister withdraw the budget today, revise it, and invite the tripartite council to participate in the process in a civil and professional manner,” Atanasov added.
