Three individuals given a second chance at life thanks to a noble organ donation decision

Three patients have been given a second chance at life after the relatives of a 59-year-old man made the noble decision to donate his organs. The donor situation was facilitated by a team from the UMBALSM “N. I. Pirogov” hospital, coordinated by Dr. Kiril Penchev.

As a result of this act of donation, a team from the Military Medical Academy, led by Prof. Dr. Nikola Vladov and Prof. Dr. Ivelin Takorov, successfully performed a liver transplant on a 63-year-old woman.

At the UMBAL “Alexandrovska” hospital, specialists from the Urology Clinic, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vladislav Mladenov, transplanted kidneys into two patients—a 40-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman.

According to reports from the medical facilities, all three patients are in good general condition and remain under observation in intensive care. Due to medical reasons, other organs were not suitable for transplantation, as reported by the Executive Agency “Medical Supervision” (EAMS).

The Ministry of Health and the EAMS express their sincere condolences to the donor’s relatives and deep gratitude for their humane choice, which saved human lives. Gratitude is also extended to the medical teams involved in the transplantations.
