Three people given a chance for a new life following a donor situation at Pirogov

Three people received a chance for a new life thanks to a donor situation. It was realized by a team from the N. I. Pirogov UMBALSM. I. Pirogov, with coordinator Dr. Mina Vapireva, as reported by the Medical Supervision Executive Agency (IAMN).

Another liver transplant was performed at the Military Medical Academy. The recipient is a 54-year-old woman. “The operation lasted a standard amount of time – nearly 6 hours. Currently, the patient is in stable condition,” commented the head of the transplant team, Prof. Nikola Vladov. Together with Prof. Vasil Mihaylov, they performed the complex intervention.

The liver explantation was carried out by a team led by Prof. Ivelin Takorov, Head of the First Clinic of Abdominal Surgery at the Military Medical Academy.

At the Alexandrovska University Hospital, a team from the Clinic of Urology, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Plamen Dimitrov, transplanted kidneys into two female patients. One is a 45-year-old woman from Kostandovo, who has been on hemodialysis for 11 months, and the other is a 39-year-old woman from Sofia, on hemodialysis for 12 years. The medical facility specified that the patients are in good general condition and remain under medical observation in intensive care.

Due to medical reasons, no other organs were transplanted.
