Two kidney transplants gave a chance for a new life to patients at Alexandrovska University Hospital

Two successful kidney transplants were performed over the past week at Alexandrovska University Hospital, according to the Medical Supervision Executive Agency.

The donor situation was realized on April 9 at St. George University Hospital, where a potential donor—a 68-year-old woman—was identified. The process of confirming brain death and preparing for donation was carried out by the medical facility’s team, coordinated by Dr. Doncho Tashkov.

The following day, April 10, the organ explantation was performed by a team from Alexandrovska University Hospital. After a precise selection among six potential recipients, the medical teams, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Plamen Dimitrov, performed two kidney transplants on men aged 41 and 49.

The Ministry of Health and the Medical Supervision Executive Agency express their deep gratitude to the donor’s relatives for their decision during an exceptionally difficult moment. “They turn pain into hope and provide a chance for life,” the institutions stated.

Gratitude was also extended to the medical teams from both hospitals, as well as to the specialists from the Emergency Medical Care Centers in Plovdiv and Sofia, whose rapid response, professionalism, and coordination made the transplants possible.
