New Lyme Disease Vaccine Shows Over 70% Efficacy in Late-Stage Trial

A new Lyme disease vaccine has shown over 70% efficacy in a late-phase clinical trial, bringing it closer to regulatory approval, according to pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and Valneva, as reported by Euronews.

The PF-07307405 vaccine demonstrated 73.2% efficacy 28 days after the fourth dose in participants aged 5 and older. According to the companies, the drug is well-tolerated, and no significant safety concerns were identified.

There is currently no approved human vaccine for Lyme disease, and this candidate is the most advanced in clinical development, with two Phase 3 studies already completed.

The trial was conducted among approximately 9,400 healthy volunteers in regions with high disease incidence in Europe, Canada, and the US. While the initial analysis did not meet the standard efficacy threshold, a subsequent analysis showed a clinically significant effect, with the lower bound of the confidence interval exceeding the required minimum.

Pfizer stated that based on these data, they will submit applications for regulatory approval of the vaccine.
