"Hospitalized," but in Gambling Halls: 3,890 Visits to Gambling Halls by Officially Admitted Hospital Patients
The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) is launching audits into incomplete or unsubstantiated hospitalizations after a data analysis from the National Revenue Agency (NRA) revealed serious discrepancies in medical facility reports.
Preliminary data analysis for the first half of 2025 shows over 22,000 registered visits to gambling halls made by 3,890 health-insured individuals who were reported as hospitalized during the same period.
In connection with the identified discrepancies, the NHIF has initiated an audit, while simultaneously undertaking subsequent control actions within the institution’s legal powers.
If violations are found, sanctions will be imposed and unlawfully paid funds will be recovered. Sanctions will be applied for unsubstantiated hospitalizations or for failure to comply with clinical pathway algorithms and procedures in medical facilities. If necessary, other competent institutions will be notified to ensure a coordinated, effective, and timely institutional response.
The NHIF emphasizes that cooperation between state authorities plays a key role in detecting and preventing abuse, strengthening control, and protecting public resources within the healthcare system.
Information regarding the results of the audits and the measures taken will be provided upon their completion.
